Sanrio Haul

Hey everyone! Not much else to say that I didn’t say in the video so I hope you enjoy it. Please let me know what videos you’d like to see me make and if Tuesdays work for all of you. Thanks a million, see you next week!

The address of the Sanrio store that I went to is:
233 WEST 42ND STREET
NEW YORK, NY 10036

It’s kind of small but has tons of stuff to choose from. I absolutely loved it and wished there was a Sanrio store where I lived -sigh- oh well, at least I can buy stuff online 🙂

Wicked Review

The theater itself was beautiful! Along the main staircase that led us to the doors which we entered to get to our seats [yes, it really was that large and confusing] there was a large map of Oz. There were two places to buy goods such as shirts, sweatshirts, programs etc. and a bar where you could buy snacks and drinks; both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. If I were 21 I might have picked up one of the cool-looking, green, Ozmopolitans. Get it? How punny 🙂 My only complaint was about the bathrooms. My goodness! There were like six stalls in the woman’s bathroom and at intermission the line was HUGE! Intermission was halfway over and the line had only moved a few people and I knew there was no way I’d be able to go to the bathroom and make it back in time so I and the woman behind me figured ‘what the Hell?’ and went in the men’s bathroom because their line was literally non-existent. It was my first time in the men’s bathroom [don’t worry, I averted my eyes and looked only at the floor] so that shows just how terribly crowded it was for the women. The theater should try to get on that.

The stage is so amazing, there is a dragon at the top of the stage that moves and the sets behind the actors are so detailed and beautifully done. I spent a lot of the time just looking at the stage to be quite honest.

The music is phenomenal. I can’t even begin to describe how amazing the cast is and how beautiful the songs were. I mentioned my two favorite scenes in the play but I love all of the songs. LITERALLY all of them. You know how in musicals, maybe you like most of the songs but there is always one or two that you just want to skip through to get to a different one? Well, that didn’t happen in Wicked. I love all the songs and every part is entertaining. There were no parts where I began to space out due to it being a dull moment. Wicked is never dull!

The messages in this musical are important ones and I think there is a lesson to be learned from Wicked. On the surface, one can learn the importance of having meaningful friendships [which I was obviously connected to, as you can tell] and how to overcome hardship. Also, it’s largely about being yourself and doing what’s right, even if no one else will. However, you can see the real world’s misconception of truth in Elphaba and Glinda. The musical makes a statement about appearances and how society perceives “good” and “bad”. Elphaba is a very good person and everything “wicked” that she does are merely unfortunate side effects of her good intentions. Glinda, on the other hand, is very selfish and most of her “good deeds” stem from her desire to boost her own importance and status. Even so, because of the way the girls look, one is falsely accused of being evil and the other as being perfectly sinless.

Songs are also used to discuss political issues in today’s society. In Glinda’s song “Popular” she sings:

“To think of celebrated heads of state or ‘specially great communicators.
Did they have brains or knowledge? Don’t make me laugh!
They were popular. Please!
It’s all about popular! It’s not about aptitude,
It’s the way you’re viewed,
So it’s very shrewd to be very, very popular like me!”

Also, In the Wizard’s song “Wonderful” he sings

“A man’s called a traitor or liberator;
A rich man’s a thief or philanthropist.
Is one a crusader or ruthless invader?
It’s all in which label is able to persist.
There are precious few at ease
With moral ambiguities,
So we act as though they don’t exist!”

It’s disturbing to think of how true this is. And of course, as I mentioned, they discuss racism and discrimination with the talking animals of Oz being forced to not speak and becoming second-class citizens. So while the musical is definitely entertaining, it also highlights important issues.

Finally, I’d like to say that this is a musical for everyone. I went with my boyfriend and he loved it! Sure, he doesn’t mind watching musicals [which he does a lot seeing as how most of my favorite movies are musicals] as much as some guys his age seem to, but even still. I think that all genders and all ages could appreciate this musical because there’s a little something for everyone.

Where Are They Now: MsKassarole Edition

Hey everyone! It’s me: MsKassarole! Serving up your favorite dish 😉

So in this video, I basically explain why I haven’t posted in a while, what I’ve been up to, and my plans for the near-future [life and blog-wise]. So there’s really not much more to tell. But this video wasn’t SUPER planned out so there are a couple of things that I forgot about while filming this video, so I’ll mention them now.

January: Well aside from New Year’s Eve stuff, my boyfriend convinced me to start reading the Harry Potter books because I never had. I did and I fell head over heels in love with them! I finished all seven books in a couple of weeks. I can’t believe I spent so many years hating on the Harry Potter series just because I thought the first movie was pretty dull. I mean, it is, but the books are SO AMAZING that I wish I had grown up with them like everyone else my age.

February: Like I said in the video: Valentine’s Day was the only memorable thing about February.

March: My half-sister turned 25 this year. I made the mean (but funny to my brother and me) comment that she was half-way to 50! She wasn’t amused.

April: My boyfriend turned 19 and I finally remember what movie we saw: Scary Movie 5. It was ok, a little stupid at certain parts but overall we enjoyed it 🙂

May: The senior class trip was really fun because I got to spend the day with my boyfriend and two of my best friends 🙂 I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT PROM! Isn’t that supposed to be what teenage girls live for? Haha! It was fun, but I felt that my junior prom was more enjoyable. The songs this year weren’t as fun to dance to so it took a while to get the ball rolling, but I still loved it. Dances are probably what I’ll miss most about high school 😛

June: I graduated on June 7 luckily the week of and the week before were easy peasy lemon squeezy! The last week was just practicing for the graduation ceremony, which was easy [although the obnoxious guys in my grade made it take longer than it should and on the last practice day I was so hungry I was considering cannibalism. Specifically, on those boys.] We had finals a week early but most of my classes weren’t big on the whole test idea so we had projects, essays, and/or presentations to do instead. I think I only had one actual test and it was for Government class. It was the same as our pretest at the beginning of the year and our midterm: the U.S. naturalization test AKA the test people need to take to become a U.S. citizen. As a natural-born citizen it was super hard, which means there are probably people in other countries who know more about American history/government than I do [I feel so pathetic] but thanks to the power of studying, I got 100% for both the midterm and the final! Don’t ask about the pretest. Just don’t.

July: Awesome month! Got to hang out with my boyfriend all day on our anniversary [which is rare] and again when we went to New York! Which was also part of our anniversary. My parents paid for the Wicked tickets at the last-minute as a graduation present. So nice 🙂 I went to sleep over at my boyfriend’s house around 10pm [mind out of the gutters, I slept on the couch.] because we had to wake up AT 3 IN THE MORNING!! Ugh the bus left at 5am and it was 30 minutes from his house so blargh. Luckily I slept through basically the entire ride there, which made it seem shorter 🙂 And we got to see WICKED! I loved it [of course] and so did he so we’re thinking of making NYC and musicals an annual thing [so long as we can afford it, of course]. Oh and on the not so fun side, I got my wisdom teeth pulled out. The day of was seriously the worst day of my life [which my brother was so kind to point out that it was only the worst “so far”]. I was groggy, bleeding, sore, and my pain meds made me throw up…which I didn’t find out until the next day. So I kept taking the dang things ALL DAY after my operation and I threw up ALL DAY. Ugh throwing up is the worst feeling ever. Oh well, at least I healed faster than average. My oral surgeon said that it takes about a month to fully heal but it only took me half the time. Apparently it means I have good genes so yay!

So yeah, that’s basically been my life for the past few months. OH AND I STARTED WATCHING SUPERNATURAL A FEW WEEKS AGO AND I’M ALREADY ON SEASON 7!! Seriously one of the best shows ever, no complaints so far. I especially love me some Misha Collins ^^

Ok guys, be sure to comment with your thoughts, questions, and video suggestions and I’ll see you next time. Have a great day!

Politics is Important [What a Shock]

Hello everyone and welcome to my first non-kpop related video haha. Well, I pretty much said it all in the video but I was cut-off while talking because my memory card ran out of space [which is why the ending is so abrubt] and a few things that I wanted to say  weren’t filmed, so I guess that I’ll say them here.

I believe that choosing not to vote is stupid because voting is one of the only ways that the average person can contribute to what goes on in their government. Pretty much everything is handled by the three branches of government and the only way for people to have some semblance of control over what happens in their country is for them to help choose who represents them. Also, if you don’t vote then I’m sorry, but you’ve pretty much lost all right to complain about those in power. If you decide not to vote then you shouldn’t whine when the president doesn’t do what you want him [or maybe her someday] to do. Even if the person you voted for doesn’t win then at least you can rest easy knowing that you did literally all that you could to try to do the best for your country. And really, that’s all anyone can ask of you.

P.S. I know Halo 4 comes out the same day as the elections [November 6] and believe me, if I was 18, I’d have serious trouble dragging myself away from my Xbox to vote, but it doesn’t take too long and every vote makes a difference; so go out and do our country proud 🙂

P.P.S. At first, I thought that saying “politics is” sounded wrong because of the plural/non plural confusion but I looked it up to be sure and it turns out that saying “politics is” is fine, depending on the situation. I’m using it as the subject of politics instead of a factor within politics. It’s like with statistics: ‘statistics is very interesting’ works because it’s in reference to the subject but ‘these statistics are very interesting’ also works because it refers to statistical data. I thought some people might want to bring the grammar hammer down on me so this is just a little fyi.

Anyway, see you guys next time; I’ll try to post more frequently! 🙂

Freakishly Huge Eyes

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share this adorable puppy with you guys. I obviously filmed this around a week ago since that’s when I filmed the second part of my kpop reactions, but this was done on my phone. It wouldn’t upload from my phone so I had to go out and get a MicroSD chip to transfer it to my computer, so that’s why it took so long. I was babysitting and they had a dog at their house for a couple of days and her eyes are crazy! She’s adorable but I couldn’t help laugh when I saw her bugged out eyes. i think they were designed for a larger breed. Anyway, hope this made you smile even if it wasn’t all that eventful 🙂

P.S. There’s another video of dogs coming up soon, but this time they’re mine. Sorry guys, I promise I’ll do a tag video or something next so there’s some actual substance on this blog 🙂

P.P.S. I have no idea why the video and audio are out of sync. It’s not like I added the audio in later or anything but oh well, stuff happens.

Introducing: MsKassarole!

Welcome to my vlog! I don’t know if finally seeing what I look and sound like is a suprise or disappointment, but this is me. I finally got around to making a video, even though I created the channel for it last month [talk about counting your chickens before they hatch]. I know this is just an intro and nothing special but I felt like I want you guys to know a little bit about me before I jump into my vlog [I did the same when I first started this blog] so there you go. I guess I’ll explain things a bit further, starting with my interests.

Books:

I love to read, I always have and I always will. The types of books that I read vary, but they all tend to center around the supernatural. I’ve enjoyed books about fairies, vampires [no, I don’t like Twilight…anymore. Don’t judge me, I cringe at the memories of my former obsession], werewolves, mutants, elves, fallen angels, the list goes on and on. However, I’ve also read my fair share of what I like to call ‘shallow books’. A few book series that fall under this list would be The Clique, A-List, and Gossip Girl novels. You know, books about snobby rich girls who spend the entire book series whining about their frivolous problems. Entertaining? Yes. Important to the big picture that is life? No, but who cares?

Movies:

Watching movies is probably my favorite way to spend a lazy day. I like all types of genres for movies too: romantic comedies, thriller, gore, comedy, action, pretty much anything but horror. I don’t watch those, I hide behind a pillow and scream bloody murder. I’ve watched movies of all sorts from around the 70s or 80s to now. The 80s are my favorite time period for movies, probably because the 80s are my favorite time period in general. Oh what I would give to have been a young adult in the 80s. -sigh-

Asia:

Okay, I am fascinated by Asia, mainly Japan [for its manga and anime] and South Korea [for its everything]. A few manga that I have read are Kitchen Princess, Hollow Fields, Fruits Basket, Chibi Vampire, Black Cat, Godchild and many more. I’ve seen less anime than I’ve read manga, but I have seen Ouran High School Host Club, Clannad, Chobits, Vampire Knight,  Black Butler and probably a couple of more that I’m forgetting. As for South Korea, I can’t get enough kpop or kdramas. My best friend got me into kpop in 2009 with 2NE1’s “Fire”. Ever since that song I’ve been spiralling deeper and deeper into an unhealthy obsession with kpop and all that relates to the country. I’ll do a video or two with my favorite kpop groups and kdramas.

So that’s it with my interests, if you share one with me and want to discuss it, or suggest something you think I might like, I could then review it and maybe give you a little shout out for the help.

As I said in the video, this is an ‘everything under the sun’ vlog and I’ll end up talking about anything that I think of; not just beauty, fashion, cooking, health and fitness, DIY projects etc. I’m a free spirit and I’ll just see where the winds of my mind take me. Also, I know that if I create a schedule, I won’t stick to it so I’m not even going to try. Sorry, I’m just not that organized.

So that concludes this video. If you have any suggestions about videos you’d like to see or anything you’d want me to discuss, leave me a comment and I’ll see what I can do. Thank you so much for watching and reading this, I hope we can have a lot of fun together!

[p.s. sorry for the abrubt ending, I was trying to edit out when I turned off the camera and that’s the smoothest I could get the ending. I’ll get better, promise.]
